"Ah lubs trains!"

What is it about toddler boys and the fascination with trains? DS has developed a passion for trains, and not just Thomas the Tank Engine, either. He loves them all.

His first train ride was on NJ Transit, just one stop to the town next to ours. The ride was only about 4 minutes long, but he was totally enthralled. He kept staring at the conductor, too. The next ride was on the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad, on the hour-long "Song and Story Train." He was absolutely spellbound, the moment he realized we were on a moving train. It wasn't the usual vintage steam engine, but a diesel, yet he was glued to his seat almost the entire time.

We borrowed a book from the library, I Love Trains! by Philemon Sturges, and I have to read it to him 3-6 times a day....in addition to his Thomas board books, Freight Train by Donald Crews (why do I want to keep typing Harry Crews?!), and Trains by Byron Barton. In the morning, he now greets us with a line from one of the Thomas books, "Good morning, Persh-tee!" (Percy the Small Green Engine).

And when I ask if if he loves mama, he says: "Ah lubs trains!"
