Boo boo, boo hoo!
The bebe got his first boo-boo yesterday. We were walking outside, when he saw some older boys (grade school-aged) playing down the street. He got really excited and tried to run towards them, but he stumbled and fell forward on the sidewalk. It happened so fast, I couldn't catch him. He hit his forehead, and got a little scrape. Copious amounts of tiny tears were shed. Wah! I am an unfit mommy! Then a bump started swelling on his forehead, so I brought him home...and realized we had no ice. Since moving, I hadn't gotten round to running the ice cube trays through the dishwasher! I had to put some frozen peas in a little sandwich baggie and wrap it in a paper towel, then put the bebe in his highchair so I could apply the cold pack. He kept trying to shake it off, but I gave him the "fascination station" (a highchair toy that suction cups onto the tray) to distract him. Poor bebe. Bad mommy!

Babywearing & punk rock
I recently ordered a mei tai, a.k.a., ABC or Asian baby carrier, since the bebe is now one year old and nearing the max weight for the Baby Bjorn. Found a great WAHM who was willing to make a custom mei tai for me with fabrics I'd chosen: Freehand Baby Carriers. One side has a black and white skull & crossbones print, and the other side has a black and white mid-century modern, geometric square print. It rocks!

Dave Chappelle....
What did the five [baby] fingers say to the [dad's] face?
Slap!
[From the Charlie Murphy/Rick James skit.]
About 2 months ago, the bebe developed this odd habit of slapping his pop's face whenever his dad carried him. So, now, instead of "Where is Thumbkin," we sing:

Creepin' and crawlin'
The bebe's starting to crawl (sort of), by laying his cheek and his shoulder down, sticking his butt up in the air, scooting his legs beneath him, and pushing forward. He kind of looks like a drunken breakdancer trying to do the "worm." ;) He can also do a snake crawl, with his head up, while on the floor. And dang, that boy's got speed!

Baby Music
I've mostly been playing Raffi, Baby Einstein, and Ralph's World CDs for the bebe. In the past few months, we've discovered that the bebe also likes Agent Orange, Devo, Nicola Conte, the Ramones, and--most recently--Slayer.
Of course, his affinity for Slayer comes as no surprise, as I played God Hates Us All quite a bit during my pregnancy. When I first played the CD for him the other day, and "Disciple" came on, he got this huge, silly grin on his face. Rock 'n roll, Cleveland! (Of course, we don't let him listen to any songs with inappropriate language.)
We learned early on that the bebe did not care for Coltrane. His daddy tried playing the CD, and it immediately elicited caterwauling.
